CODA has historical win
CODA made history as the first predominantly deaf cast to win the SAG Award for Best Film Ensemble. The film also won another award for Troy Kotsur’s performance; he is the first deaf actor to be nominated and win a SAG Award for acting.
Troy shared his gratitude towards the members of SAG via an ASL interpreter during his speech:
“Wow. Thank you so much to all the members of SAG. I am so proud to be a member. I’ve been a member since 2001, and so now I feel like I’m finally part of the family. I know you all are artists, and I know you all know what it’s like to be a starving actor. Back then, I used to sleep in my car. I slept in my dressing room backstage, I couch-surfed and all of that, you feel me, right? So, thank you so much. I’m so grateful to SAG [for protecting] us actors.”
Squid Game takes home 3 awards
The South Korean Netflix drama swept the TV category, becoming the first foreign-language show to earn a nomination and win. The series won 3 awards; Lee Jung-Jae won the award for Outstanding Performance by a Male actor in a Drama Series and Jung Ho-yeon won for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a drama series. The show also won the award for Outstanding Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Television Series.
Jung Ho-Yeon delivered a heartfelt speech to SAG members, and shared how honored she is to be among talented actors.

Michael Keaton honors his nephew
When Michael Keaton won for his role in Dopesick, he began his speech by running to the stage, announcing he was late because of a “quick trip to the bathroom.” As his speech went on, Michael emphazied issues going on in the world and praising Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s strength.
Towards the end of his acceptance speech, he honored his nephew Michael, who had died from fentanyl and heroin a couple of years ago. “This is for my nephew Michael and my sister Pam,” he said during his speech. “I lost Michael to drugs, and it hurts.”
Helen Mirren accepts SAG Lifetime Achievement Award
Helen Mirren was honored with this year’s SAG Lifetime Achievement Award. Kate Winslet remotely presented the award while Cate Blanchett said a few words of her own about the actor. The Award show then presented a group of clips, highlighting Helen Mirren’s work throughout the years.
When Helen took the stage, she proved to audiences her grace and quick wit by explaining the mantra she lives by. “Be on time and don’t be an ass,” she says.
Succession’s Brian Cox gives a powerful speech on the Russian-Ukraine conflict
As Succession won the award for Ensemble in a Drama Series, actor Brian Cox took the stage with his fellow cast members to share his support for Ukraine. In his speech, Brian acknowledged the strength of the Ukrainian president and former comic performer Volodymyr Zelenskyy and expressed sympathy for the people and artists living in Ukraine and Russia:
“The president of Ukraine was a comic. He was a wonderful comic performer. And we should respect that for him. And to come to the presidency was amazing. But the thing that’s really distressed me is what’s happening in Russia to my fellow actors and actresses and performers and writers and critics. They are told, under pain of high treason, that they cannot say a word about Ukraine. And I think that is pretty awful,” he said. “And I think we should all stand together. And also for those people in Russia who don’t like what’s going on, particularly the artists, I think we should really join in celebrating them and hoping they can actually make a shift, as I believe they can.”
