A movie franchise focusing on girls who like to party hard and bare their breasts? You’d think they’d have come up with that one sooner.
Thanks to MGM, we’ll soon get to see not one but perhaps several feature films based on the video and direct-response DVD phenomenon Girls Gone Wild. The studio struck a deal with Girls creator Joe Francis to make the first of what is hoped to be many feature films, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The Gone Wild reality-based series launched in 1998, featuring women baring all at such events as spring break parties and Mardi Gras. To date, there have been 83 separate releases, including a “best of” collection.
The feature version will center around a group of coeds as they head for Panama City Beach, Fla., to get “wild.”
“It’s going to be a fictionalized version of Girls Gone Wild, with love stories and everything in between,” Francis told The Reporter. “We will take elements of the core product and bring it to the silver screen, which we all know takes a hell of a lot more creativity. And at the end of the day, all I want is a great movie. I don’t need the money and would never want a piece of garbage with my name on it.”
Francis will act as executive producer along with producers Jay Froberg and Greg Suess of ROAR, a MGM-based production company.
