Studios remain on strict anthrax watch

Movie and TV studios, along with other media outlets, remain on high alert following Friday’s discovery of anthrax within NBC‘s Manhattan headquarters.

At Sony employees have been on high alert since a package containing mysterious white powder was sent to the studio last Friday. After investigation the powder appeared to be harmless.

Warner Bros. mailroom workers are also taking heightened precautions as of Monday: they’re required to wear protective gloves and facemasks while working, and are being trained to better identify suspicious packages.

According to Variety, a Warner Bros. spokesman said they have not received any hazardous parcels, but will remain on high alert.

The anthrax scare has been strengthened within the entertainment industry since Friday due to the discovery of spores on or within at least two NBC employees–Tom Brokaw‘s assistant and a member of their news investigation staff–and the presence of an anthrax-tainted envelope sent to the New York Times.
