Are you over the whole vampires, zombies, and werewolves thing? Well, what about witches? You can’t possibly be over witches. It’s been far too long since Sabrina the Teenage Witch made us giggle and cringe or Charmed made us just cringe. We definitely need more witchy women on TV again, right?
I hope I’m right, and so does the CW. They just picked up a pilot from the Vampire Diaries folks that is based off of books written by the same person who wrote the Vampire Diaries books. Talk about going back to the well. The CW’s been hoping for a companion show for the vampiric hit, but producers were too busy. Now they’ve come across this story of a young girl (because every CW show starts off with that description except for Smallville and Supernatural) who moves to a small town (what is it with small towns this pick up season?). The girl discovers that she’s actually a witch and part of a secret covenant — or CIRCLE — and that she’s the key to the battle of good and evil. Boy does this sound like a Charmed and Buffy sandwich with a side of old school WB mayo: stale.
It may seem dull and contrived to me, but just watch. This show’s going to be a hit and the crowning jewel to make CW the Queen of Monsters — they’ve already got a vampire show, a show about miscellaneous paranormal creatures, a zombie show in the works, and now one about witches. I guess you really can have it all.
