Ben Kingsley scolds movie execs

Oscar-winning actor Ben Kingsley (Gandhi, Schindler’s List) has chastised film executives for trying to mimic recent hits. Speaking at a film festival in Karlovy Vary, in the Czech Republic, Kingsley remarked. “Many producers are so lazy-minded that they believe that if people are buying cakes with cherries this week, then they are going to buy cakes with cherries next week. … It doesn’t work like that, so quality suffers and so does the focus of purpose. If you make a film because you believe there is a ready-made audience for it, then you make the film without any sense of urgency, which is crucial.” He added: “The studios completely dishonor the intelligence of audiences.
