Feel like going to the movies?

Continued TV coverage of the aftermath of the terrorist attack is likely to draw moviegoers away from theaters over the weekend and produce perhaps the worst box office of the year, analysts indicated Thursday. “It’s going to really hurt the box office because if people are glued to their TV sets, they’re not going to be going to the movie theaters,” Exhibitor relations chief Paul Dergarabedian told Bloomberg news. Adding to the theater owners’ gloom is the fact that the box office rarely performs well at this time of year and that the only two new movies being released have received lackluster reviews and appear likely to receive lackluster reaction from audiences as well.
