P. Diddy to fight AIDS ignorance

MTV has chosen hip hop mogul Sean “P Diddy” Combs to educate youth on the dangers of AIDS for an upcoming documentary to be aired on the music network Dec. 1, World Aids Day.

“HIV and AIDS touches everyone, it kills without conscience, rich or poor, black or white, young or old,” he said, launching the documentary on the perils of AIDS, Reuters reports.

Each year, MTV chooses a star it hopes its young viewing audience can identify with and pay attention to. Super-sexy singer Ricky Martin was chosen as spokesman for last year’s campaign.

Titled Staying Alive, the documentary highlights HIV and AIDS patients across the world who are still battling not only the disease, but prejudice and ignorance, as well. From Sweden to Cambodia, from Australia to Brazil, MTV has compiled interviews with individuals afflicted with this terrible epidemic.

MTV is hoping that its message will be a wakeup call for the youth of the world.

“With young people accounting for 50 percent of new HIV infections, MTV will continue to dedicate its airwaves…to communicating prevention, anti-discrimination and awareness messages to help them avoid infection, ” said Bill Roedy, president of MTV Networks International.

The documentary will air on MTV and will be seen in more than 365 million households in 139 countries.
