The hit to the nets: $320 million

The four major television networks lost $320 million in revenue during their commercial-free coverage of last week’s terrorist attacks, according to estimates compiled by New York research firm CMR and reported in today’s Wall Street Journal. The figure was significantly higher than what analysts had previously forecast. While the impact on the networks was significant, the impact on local stations was likely to be at least equally dire, the report indicated, noting that researchers had yet to poll all of the local stations.
