This week the hard-working handsome-face, Paul Walker, returns to the boxoffice with Running Scared. His competition includes: a cuddly, gender-bending story for young and old alike, Madea’s Family Reunion; a gritty Cuba Gooding Jr. cop drama, Dirty; an animated tale about a magic diamond Doogal; and admittedly Paul, himself, in last week’s released hit, Eight Below. Other contenders still fighting for high numbers during this winter season, include The Pink Panther and Date Movie. It’s clear the mood is all about lighter comedic fare this month–edging out the harder fare. We wonder if the winter doldrums may have anything to do with it.
Either way, we watch closely to see how the battle of Paul Walker vs. Paul Walker will pan out. Who knows, maybe a gun-toting church “lady” (in drag), with a cult-following will step-in and be the victor. Actually, returning to the box-office with a sly one-two hit would be a very fitting move for the tough-as-nails Madea, now wouldn’t it?
