TV Rewind: Dunaway on ‘CSI’; ‘ER’ Airs a Definite Emmy Winner; ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Adds a Twist

CSI: Crime Scene Investigators Track a Legend
Faye Dunaway, in all of her beauty, guest stars in what might be one of the greatest CSIs to date. As one of Las Vegas’ golden age Copa dancers, Dunaway plays Lois O’Neill, the ex-girlfriend of a legendary mobster Tony Constantine. While throwing a party to celebrate the release of her tell-all memoir, “The Lives and Loves of Lois O’Neill,” a costume change turns into a murder mystery as a waiter is found dead in O’Neill’s room, while Lois is locked in the safe. The LVPD and the CSI crew are thrown off course when it turns out Lois has try to plan her own death, only for it to go horribly wrong. Then the jaws really drop when, at the end, she has her body guard–and good friend–shoot her, leaving behind a trail of clues for the CSI guys to follow. They find her porcelain, lifeless body, solving both mysteries with one shot.

ER Takes on Lou Gehrig’s Disease
If James Woods does not get an Emmy nomination for his guest starring role in this week’s ER, I’m boycotting the awards next year. This week’s episode chronicles a patient’s (Woods) struggle with the degenerative nerve disease, ALS. Not only are there flash backs of when this medical professor was at his prime, but it also shows when he gets the disease–and how quickly it takes over his body. It’s a fight between Abby–who wants to do everything to save him–and his daughter Fran, who wants him to die peacefully and comfortably at home. You would think with 12 seasons under their belts, the show couldn’t possibly think of anymore original ideas–until, that is, you see an episode like this one.

Shocker on Grey’s Anatomy
OK, so I can’t be the only one who didn’t see it coming. Just when you think you know everything about the show, they throw something new at you. Case in point, Izzie. Apparently, she used to live in a trailer, which is not so surprising seeing as how she modeled to put herself through med school. What is surprising is that she had a kid at 16. This little nugget comes out as she is treating a pregnant teen. Izzie simply wants the girl to make the best decision for herself in letting her know she gave her own child up for adoption. Of course, the girl’s mother doesn’t want pretty doctor Izzie to interfere. Where they’re taking this, I have no idea. Then Burke tells Cristina that he now knows the problem with an intern dating an attending after she complains to him about a surgery Cristina’s new boss is performing–and he does something about it. Cristina thinks the surgery will kill the patient and Burke actually questions the new doctor’s expertise. They are both proven wrong. Yikes. Good thing Cristina kept her old apartment! While one couple grows apart, another may be re-forming? McDreamy and Meredith share a cozy moment when she has a nervous breakdown after having to pull the plug on one of her patients.

Keep Your Eyes Peeled
Next Thursday’s ER will once again prove the shows staying power. Noah Wyle returns to reprise the role of Dr. Carter, the circumstances of his return remain unknown which is reason enough to tune in. Also, the new season of the Real World airs Feb. 28 at 10:00 p.m.–Key West should make for a great location for the long awaited next season of the show. And look out for Lorne Michaels’ new show, Sons and Daughters which promises to be a little controversial and very entertaining. The series premiere has yet to be scheduled but will air on ABC.
