Will Gluck has added a slugger and some zombie hunters to his next film. Alex Rodriguez, Woody Harrelson and Emma Stone have joined the cast of Friends With Benefits, a romantic comedy about two friends (Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis) who become, well, friends with benefits after getting sick of the dating scene. Harrelson and Stone were last seen together in Zombieland, and Stone is starring in Gluck’s high school comedy Easy A, due out in October. Yankees star A-Rod will make his film debut in Friends, in an unspecified role that will inevitably have something to do with baseball.
While there’s a reasonable amount of talent in this film, like Richard Jenkins, Jenna Elfman, Patricia Clarkson and Andy Samberg, the number of non-actors is somewhat troubling. Rodriguez has no acting experience, and while Justin Timberlake has appeared in a handful of films, he’s still technically a singer. Not that any of this matters, since Timberlake’s presence alone should guarantee that tons of teen girls will go see it (and plenty of 20-somethings nostalgic for *NSYNC), and A-Rod might serve as boy-bait.
