If you’re as obsessed with the hilarious R-rated superhero flick Deadpool like we are, then you adored Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson. The sarcastic mercenary’s terminal cancer diagnosis leads him down a very dark path where he becomes the tortured and disfigured, Deadpool. Desperate for a cure to his disease, Wade finds himself entangled with the Evil Scientist Ajax. Ajax promises Wade a cure by activating the dormant mutant genes lurking is his DNA.  But what if Wade Wilson was already a mutant?

According to reddit user spekter299, though Wade’s healing capabilities became superhuman after he was transformed into Deadpool, the experiment does not account for his abilities prior to that.  spekter299 says, “No amount of regeneration would enable Wade to accomplish feats like lining up a side flipping triple headshot, jumping off a three level overpass to land perfectly in the sunroof of a moving vehicle, throwing a sword into the wheel of a moving motorcycle while jumping, throwing a sword to puncture that oxygen chamber without hurting Vanessa, shooting a grenade out of a man’s hand, or racking up a perfect score on skeeball.”

There is a reason why Wade was once a Special Forces operative, he already had natural abilities that most “regular” folk don’t have. As spekter299 suggests, Wade is already a mutant with flawless coordination aka hyperkinesis which means that his physical actions always play out as he imagines them. “This superhuman coordination is how he can spin kick a severed head into another guys head or snatch a spinning axe out of the air so effortlessly, yet when negasonic launches him onto the helicarrier he comes up short.”

Since Wade had no dormant mutant genes, none of the mutant activating experiments worked on him. It was not until Ajax locked him in the oxygen chamber while still dosing him with the mutant activating serum that something happened. spekter299 explains that this final act induced a secondary mutation within Wade. They say, “This secondary mutation usually occurs in your mid to late 20s (initial mutation usually kicks in at puberty), under extreme stress or near death, and frequently comes with major physical changes. Deadpool’s appearance had always been blamed on super cancer, but that doesn’t really add up. Why does having tumors in his organs cause his skin to break out in lesions and sores? And how does that cause him to smell like a corpse?” The secondary mutation is to blame!
