It helps to have friends in show business, because even when your career suffers from a flop or two, a reliable colleague can help you get back into an audience’s good graces. Jessica Alba is more than likely extremely happy to have developed a solid professional relationship with Robert Rodriguez, because her coolest movies are his products. She’s starred in two of his films – the visually stunning graphic novel adaptation Sin City and next week’s Grindhouse spin-off Machete – and is readying her third collaboration with the prolific filmmaker as Heat Vision reports that she’s signed on for Spy Kids 4.
The film is a reboot of sorts and will focus on a new batch of Spy Kids as the stars of the original trilogy – Alexa Vega and Daryl Sabara – have sadly hit puberty and will have to wait for Dimension Films to make Spy Teens especially for them. The new movie, which was once titled Spy Kids 4: Armageddon but is now known as Spy Kids 4: All The Time In The World, will focus on a retired spy (Alba) who has been reactivated and will require the assistance of her two preteen stepchildren.
Fans shouldn’t be too worried about the new face of the franchise: the trade notes that Vega, Sabara and even Antonio Banderas will return in some capacity for the fourquel, which will be shot in 3D for an August 19th, 2011 release. You can expect more announcements on the cast of the film as well, since there are many other roles to fill, including Alba’s character’s investigative journalist husband and the dastardly villain known as the Timekeeper who – wouldn’t you know it – wants to stop time.
For the fifth film in the series, I would like to play the villain who tries to stop Robert Rodriguez from making anymore Spy Kids movies…
