Natalie Portman May Reunite with The Wachowskis for ‘Jupiter Ascending’

ALT2011 was quite the year for Natalie Portman. She won an Oscar, gave birth to her first child, and, most importantly, starred in Thor. That’s a whole lot of life fulfillment for 365 days.

But since taking time off to imprint on her new baby, fans (us included) have been clamoring to know what project she’ll take on next, crossing our fingers it she wouldn’t follow up her Academy Award win with the all-too-common, lackluster blockbuster. In other words, we don’t want to see one of our favorites end up in Catwoman 2. But the LA Times blog 24 Frames has some reassuring news: according to sources, Portman will reteam with Lana and Andy Wachowski, directors of The Matrix and the writers/producers of Portman’s V for Vendetta, for the epic sci-fi flick Jupiter Ascending. Little is known about the project, but it is said to be the Wachowski’s follow up to the equally mind-bending Cloud Atlas, which they’re current in the midst of editing for a 2012 release.

Without any information on the plot or vision for Jupiter Ascending, it’s hard to tell if Portman’s signed herself up for a Catwoman-level dud—but all evidence points to the opposite. Whether their films entirely work on a dramatic level, it’s undeniable The Wachowskis are true visionaries when it comes to the imaginative world of sci-fi. Coupled with Portman’s acting skills, Jupiter Ascending already sounds like something special.

Now we just have to hope it works out.
