There were plenty of reasons I was excited for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2—the epic Hogwarts battle, the final showdown between Harry and Voldemort, the infamous epilogue sequence. But after a decade of following the characters I loved to the franchise’s grand finale, I’d be kidding my romantic side if I left out the anticipation of witnessing Ron and Hermione profess their love for one another. And director David Yates nails it: after the strenuous task of destroying a horcrux with a Basilisk fang, the flirty duo finally lock lips—then run straight into battle. I can’t imagine I’m alone here, but my midnight screening crowd went wild.
But like all great cinematic moments, it wasn’t as easy to pull off as it looked. A neat little featurette from the upcoming Deathly Hallows – Part 2 Blu-ray reveals that Rupert Grint and Emma Watson had plenty of nerves to overcome in order to make the kiss as authentic and spontaneous as it looks on screen. As Yates puts it, “they’re like brother and sister.”
Take a look at the making of and look out for the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 Blu when it hits shelves November 11.
