‘Catch .44’ Catches Killer Cast

Malini AkermanBruce Willis, with his larger than life screen persona and 8-figure salary, rarely ventures into independent film these days, making today’s news of his casting in Aaron Harvey’s indie crime drama Catch .44 that much sweeter.

Variety reports that the perennial action star, who’ll next be seen in a cameo in Sly Stallone’s The Expendables before playing a hitman on the run in Summit Entertainment’s Red, will join Forest Whitaker, Malin Akerman and Kate Mara in the film which centers on three women — led by Akerman’s character — being thrust into an extraordinary situation involving a psychopathic hitman, played by Whitaker, a grizzled trucker and a delusional line cook. Willis will play the head crime boss, the mastermind behind everything that happens.

Based on that synopsis, my guess is that the movie will focus on Akerman, Mara and an as-yet-uncast third female, with Willis, Whitaker and other actors of the same caliber (hopefully) adding the flavor of danger to the recipe.  The premise is interesting enough and there aren’t enough high-concept stories being told with women in the lead(s) anymore, so I’m excited to see who else signs up for the project and how it all plays out.  At the very least, it will be entertaining to see how Harvey will balance the sexiness between Akerman and Mara. A third character on par with those ladies may cause heart attacks at the multiplex…
