J.J. Abrams Starts Production on ‘Star Trek 2’

5630811.jpgParamount announced today that principal photography has commenced on Star Trek 2 (working title), J.J. Abrams‘ follow-up to his blockbuster 2009 reboot of the fabled sci-fi franchise. The much-anticipated sequel is scheduled for a 12-week shoot, the bulk of which will take place in Los Angeles, where the bridge of the Enterprise has been erected on a soundstage at Sony Pictures Entertainment. Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, John Cho, Bruce Greenwood, Simon Pegg, Zoë Saldana, Karl Urban, and Anton Yelchin are all set to reprise their roles from the 2009 film. They are joined by newcomers Alice Eve, Peter Weller, and Benedict Cumberbatch, the latter of whom is rumored to be playing the film’s principal villain.

Star Trek 2 is due in theaters May 17, 2013.
