LOS ANGELES, Feb. 25, 2001 — When the Emmys and Golden Globes are handed out, Ray Romano always feels like the bridesmaid.
But at Saturday night’s TV Guide Awards, the comedian won his first major award as Actor of the Year in a Comedy Series for his sitcom “Everybody Loves Raymond.” The show also won Comedy Series of the Year and Supporting Actress of the Year in a Comedy Series (Doris Roberts).
Awards juggernaut “The West Wing” made off with just two awards, Drama Series of the Year and Actor of the Year in a Drama Series (Martin Sheen). “Will & Grace” also took home honors for Debra Messing and Sean Hayes, Actress of the Year in a Comedy Series and Supporting Actor of the Year in a Comedy Series, respectively.

With separate categories for new series, fledgling shows “Bette,” “C.S.I.,” “Ed” and “Dark Angel” also got their due. But in an upset, A&E’s “Biography” won Reality Series of the Year over “Survivor.”
Winners for the third annual event, held at the Shrine Exposition Center in Los Angeles, are decided via some 30 million TV Guide readers. Viewers will be able to cast their vote for the finalists in the “Moment of the Year” category, which were announced during the show, when the broadcast airs March 7 on Fox .
