Paramount has scheduled the highly anticipated film for June 11, 2027, with Smile filmmaker Parker Finn directing. The movie will open against Universal’s live-action How to Train Your Dragon 2, setting up an intriguing theatrical matchup for the summer release calendar.
The original Possession starred Sam Neill and Isabelle Adjani and followed a troubled married couple whose relationship takes a disturbing turn after the wife asks for a divorce. Żuławski’s film became known for its intense performances, surreal imagery and psychological horror, earning a reputation as one of the era’s most provocative genre films.
For the Possession remake, Margaret Qualley and Callum Turner will take on the central roles as the husband and wife. The new cast also includes Diego Calva, Madeline Brewer, Emory Cohen, Nicholas Alexander Chavez and Paul Dano, although details about their respective characters remain under wraps.
Finn, who broke out with the horror hit Smile and its sequel, is producing the project alongside Jonathan Fass, Roy Lee, Andrew Childs and Robert Pattinson. Marc Bienstock is attached as an executive producer.
Qualley has continued building an impressive résumé with performances in films including The Substance, Poor Things and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Turner, meanwhile, is known for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, The Boys in the Boat and Eternity.
With its talented cast and Finn behind the camera, the Possession remake is shaping up to be one of 2027’s most intriguing horror releases.
