Cruise escorts Cruz to her premiere

The most anticipated moment at the Tuesday night premiere of Captain Corelli’s Mandolin was by far the arrival of Hollywood’s latest and most talked about couple, Tom Cruise and Penélope Cruz.

The two arrived hand-in-hand, smiling and kissing for the cameras.

At last night’s premiere of Captain Corelli’s Mandolin, Cruz spoke about her new beau.

“I think some people cannot believe that he really can be so close to perfection. He’s an amazing person,” Cruz said, according to Entertainmnet Tonight.

Tom and Penélope revealed their romantic relationship several weeks ago after they were spotted at Wolfgang Puck’s famed Beverly Hills eatery, Spago. Cruise‘s spokeswoman Pat Kingsley confirmed that the two had “had a few dates.”

The Spanish beauty was also seen at Cruise‘s July 6 birthday bash at the Buffalo Club in Santa Monica.

Rumors are already spreading that the two were actually dating when they were filming their upcoming romantic thriller Vanilla Sky in November.

This is Cruise‘s first romance since he filed for divorce from his wife of 10 years, Nicole Kidman, February 7. Kidman stated in her March 2 response that Cruise told her on Feb. 4 that “he no longer wanted to live with her and that he wanted a divorce.” The announcement came as a shock since the couple had just celebrated their 10th anniversary with some friends on December 24. They have two adopted children, Isabella, 8, and Conor, 6.

But Cruise is not the only one making waves.

In the past, Cruz has consistently denied rumors of being romantically involved with former costars Nicolas Cage (Captain Corelli’s Mandolin) and Matt Damon (All the Pretty Horses).

She told the Calgary Times in April, “Just because we are actors, it doesn’t give anyone the right to ask who we sleep with,” she said. “It’s such an absurd invasion of privacy, which is why actors lie so much about their private lives. It’s our way of getting back.”

She also made it a now-broken rule that she would not talk about her private life once she became famous.

Vanilla Sky, starring Cruz and Cruise, should make quite a splash when it open in theaters on December 14.
