The Skinny: This is an updated take on one of the more chilling serial killers of all time–Jack the Ripper. Depp plays a 19th-century opium-addicted detective investigating the murders of several prostitutes in London and inevitably falls in love with one (Graham), who could be Jack’s next victim.

The Bottom Line: Depp continues to be one of the more interesting actors who continually takes on a wide range of roles and plays characters who are far from one-dimensional. And with the film’s gory reenactments, the Hughes brothers (Menace II Society) are ready to uncover the most gruesome serial-killing spree the turn of the century England had ever seen.
