The Players: Gene Hackman, Danny DeVito, Sam Rockwell, Rebecca Pidgeon, Delroy Lindo; directed by David Mamet

The Skinny: The always good Hackman plays the leader of a bunch of thieves whom DeVito talks into one last job, stealing a large supply of gold. In taking the job, Hackman and his partners (including Lindo and Mamet regulars Pidgeon and Ricky Jay) begin to betray each other for their own selfish ambitions.

The Bottom Line: Mamet is at it again, doing what he does best. He’s concocted a thorough character study on the intricacies of the double cross. Plus Hackman never gives a bad performance–this role should just add to his legendary career.
