The Skinny: A huge hit at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, this film is a mind-bending animated compilation of thoughts and ideas ranging from the State of the Human Condition to the Fleeting Nature of Identity. It loosely follows a confused young man (Dazed and Confused‘s Wiggins) who may or may not be dreaming all this really weird stuff.
The Bottom Line: Director Linklater (Before Sunrise) told Entertainment Weekly, “The movie puts your brain into overdrive…You just go ooh, ooh, ooh trying to process it all.” It’s not just the subject matter that’s unnerving but also in the look of the film. Using a computer technique called interpolated rotoscoping, the film digitally paints over the live-action footage. Cool.
