Some female stars are putting their best foot–or, in this case, footwear–forward to help raise money for breast cancer research, with the help of one of Hollywood’s top shoe gurus.
To mark October as Breast Cancer Awareness month, footwear designer Stuart Weitzman recruited a bevy of entertainment industry divas to add their own creative eye (er, toe) to one of his classic stilettos. Proceeds from the one-of-a-kind pumps, which are being auctioned off on eBay in three separate auctions through Nov. 1, benefit breast cancer research.
Bidding closed Oct. 11 and Oct. 22 on the first two auctions, which featured fabulous footwear by Jennifer Love Hewitt, Patricia Heaton, Naomi Judd and Leann Rimes.
But there’s still time left to pick up a shoe or two. From now until Nov. 1, creations by Catherine Zeta-Jones, Tina Turner, Jennie Garth, Wynonna Judd, Shirley MacLaine, Mena Suvari, Bo Derek, Pam Tillis and others will be up for grabs.
Already sold? Cindy Crawford‘s metallic gold creation, emblazoned with her lipsticked kiss and autograph, went for $600. Mary Hart‘s (who almost always wears Weitzman on Entertainment Tonight) tie-dyed pump drew $435. Stuart Weitzman’s own original design, swathed in 4,000 pink Swarovski crystals and a pink ribbon symbolizing breast cancer awareness, fetched $760, as did gossip columnist Liz Smith‘s green design mounted on a white dish. (Get it? Dish?).
Other novice shoe designers include actresses Charlize Theron (her pump proclaimed “a woman is a woman is a woman”), Whoopi Goldberg, Angela Bassett and Katie Couric (whose pump at press time was topping $670).
In light of the Sept. 11 tragedies, two stars put their patriotic shoes on eBay’s “Auction for America,” held Sept. 28 to Oct. 1 to benefit the Twin Towers fund. Susan Sarandon adorned her red patent-leather Weitzman shoe with red and blue pipe cleaners and white fringe. Vivica A. Fox‘s “USA” pump glittered with red, white, blue, green, pink, clear and black Swarovski crystals. Both sold to a single bidder, who paid $520 for Sarandon’s and $222.50 for Fox’s.
Proceeds will be distributed among four leading breast cancer charities: the American Cancer Society, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, Cedars-Sinai Research for Women’s Cancers and the Susan G. Komen Foundation. To bid, go to http://members.ebay.com/aboutme/stuartweitzmanauctions.
