The Skinny: Tim Allen reprises his role as Scott Calvin, considered by his loyal elves the best Santa Clause ever. Things quickly go south when Santa finds out that his son has landed on this year’s “naughty” list. Desperate to help his son, Scott leaves a substitute Clause to watch over things at the Pole. But the substitute Santa’s strange redefinitions of naughty and nice put Christmas at risk, and it’s up to Scott to save the holiday.
The Bottom Line: Eight years and $144 million box office dollars later, Tim Allen is back in this holiday prequel–and boy, could he use a hit. With the holiday season starting earlier each year, The Santa Clause 2 bows into theaters between Halloween and Thanksgiving, a bit of a turn-off even for the most pro-Christmas masses.
