For some, watching the stars walk up the red carpet to the 54th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards was more exciting than the ceremony itself. And why shouldn’t it be? Fashion has become such an important topic that what the stars wear is almost as important as what prize–if any–they take home.
The red carpet is where trends emerge and fashion faux pas become fodder for the press. By watching the first few arrivals, for example, we already knew that a Tracy Allen ring is the latest must-have accessory.
The most fashionably dressed celeb of the evening had to be Debra Messing, the first big star to face the paparazzi. Debra Messing kept up her fashion-do persona wearing a black Michael Kors dress that laces up in the front, complete with Manolo Blahniks.
Always one to turn heads, Sex and the City‘s Kim Cattrall showed up wrapped in a clingy Hervé Leger number. Noticeably absent, however, was her very pregnant Sex pal Sarah Jessica Parker who was grounded in New York on advice of her doctor.
Three-time nominee John Spencer, from NBC’s West Wing, arrived in good spirits, joking about always being the usher but never the groom.
Meanwhile, Frasier‘s Kelsey Grammer, nominated for lead actor in a comedy, hinted that the series was going strong and still has a couple more years worth of story lines, and maybe one more after that.
The cast mates from HBO’s Six Feet Under, which received a total of 21 nominations, showed up all at once. The show’s many first-time nominees almost looked like deer in the headlights of flashing camera bulbs.
Oprah Winfrey looked surprisingly stunning in a cream colored Bradley Bayou gown. Winfrey is the Bob Hope Humanitarian award recipient, but don’t expect the talk-show queen to ramble on with her acceptance speech. She has been warned to keep her thank-yous down to 45 seconds.
There were no hard feelings between Friends stars Matt LeBlanc and Matthew Perry, who are both competing in the lead actor in a comedy category. ” If he gets it, at least I’ll get to hold it,” LeBlanc joked.
Ah, what could be better than a bit of healthy competition between cast mates?
