Paris Hilton was shivering like her tiny pal Tinkerbelle as she braved the frigid red carpet and L.A.’s unseasonably cold December weather to host her own holiday season bash and introduce her brand new Paris Hilton Fragrance, which one images will end up being gifted and re-gifted among hard-partying heiresses everywhere.
Who knew Paris was so good with chemistry? “I just mixed all these oils and made up a perfume, and it smells so good!” Paris told me. “It’s, like, very girly, very flowery and fruity and sexy.” The girl-who-has-everything also revealed that she’s hoping to see some Jimmy Choo boots filling her Christmas stocking, and her party calendar is, of course, booked, booked, booked as New Year’s Eve approaches: “I’m going to be in Orlando for my Club Paris opening on New Year’s, and then Miami, and then Maui to relax for a week.”
Relax? This girl? Her not-so-Simple Life is jam-booyed with all kinds of parties to pop into, not the least of which was her own, set in an office building on Wilshire Boulevard across from Hancock Park, where the entire first floor lobby was converted into a very Paris-appropriate party pad, complete with wall-to-wall pink carpeting, pink banquettes and special VIP areas sectioned of with pale pink curtains, and the bartenders and wait staff wore black t-shirts that said “I [Heart] Paris” in pink lettering, serving mini-cheeseburgers, pigs-in-a-blanket and chocolate candies.
Paris, bundled in a big blue jacket to stop the shivering, broke precedent and was the first celeb to arrive-with parentals Rick and Kathy Hilton (soon to be the stars of their own reality series) in tow. Once inside she ditched the coat, revealing her adorable, flimsy beige party dress. Donning a shimmery tiara, she posed and posed and posed for the cameras next to a large blown-up photo of herself on the elevators leading up to a concert area where actress and rowdy alterna-rocker Juliette Lewis and her band the Licks kicked out a raucous set (BTW Juliette kicks even more ass as a rocker than she did in Natural Born Killers).
Paris eyed the photo appreciatively, and perhaps she’d finally found her perfect love-match: herself. Along with the professional photographers, who frequently stopped shooting to let Paris review their images and pick out her favorites, the party guests also snapped away with their cell phone cameras, capturing the reality show princess in all her glory. Of course, in between shots, Paris’ own sparkly studded cell phone was permanently affixed to her ear.
The Hiltons’ posse was a mixed bag of young Pals of Paris (including Chad Michael Murray, Elisha Cuthbert and late-arriving sis Nicky–Nicole Richie was a no-show) and the ultra-chic friends of her mom and dad. Just before midnight Paris sashayed over to the dance floor and presented the DJ with a CD, asking him to play it for her. The crowd was immediately treated to Paris’ first single from her upcoming album, a bubblegum-y dance track featuring her whispery-sexy Britney-esque vocals (neither Nora Jones nor Christina Aguilera have anything to worry about, folks).
Paris and pals (papa Rick may not be the best dancer in the family but he gets points for trying) hit the dance floor as she busted all her best moves: dancing and lip-synching to the song, giving come-hither looks to the video cameras that recorded her every twirl and occasionally pulling a random hot dude out onto the floor to dance with her. Paris’ musical mystery tour continued with two more songs, cover versions of Blondie’s “Heart and Glass” and David Bowie’s “Fame,” two things the dancing diva may know a little bit about.
As Paris twirled on the dance floor and the aroma of her signature scent wafted through the party, I realized this, literally, was the sweet smell of success.
