Every Thursday, Hollywood.com lists the 10 coolest celebs, movies and goings-on in the world of entertainment.
1. March of the Penguins, French director Luc Jacquet‘s documentary about migrating penguins, has been declared the hit of the summer–as far as individual screenings are concerned. The film, which opened in just 20 theaters late last month, made about $7,000 more per screen than War of the Worlds at the box office last weekend. March of the Penguins has grossed $750,000 so far in limited release.
2. German TV studio floor managers, for quickly cutting the lights Monday night after Mariah Carey accidentally flashed her breasts at stunned fans when her dress fell apart during a live television appearance. The floor managers swift response saved the singer from further shame and allowed the singer to recover her dignity–and clothes–in obscurity. “Someone bring me a jacket or the show’s off, we all know how quickly these images can spread around the world,” the Glitter star quipped. She then reappeared on stage and continued with the show.
3. Paramount Pictures, for standing behind its Star Trek franchise. That’s right–the studio is prepping a prequel in the line of Star Trek movies, its 11th film in the sci-fi franchise. The film, tentatively titled Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, will be penned by scribe Eric Jendresen and based on characters created by legendary Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry.
4. Pope Benedict XVI, who declined Live 8 organizer Bob Geldof’s invitation to appear at a British Live 8 concert. The newly elected head of the Catholic Church sent a refusal letter along with a signed photo of himself to Geldoff, who was surprised by the pontiff’s lackadaisical snub. “I got back in touch with him and said I never wanted a signed photograph, I just wanted him to come to London or Edinburgh this week,” Geldoff lamented. To think it took the Pope to knock Geldoff’s galling God complex.
5. Fantastic Four, for saving the box office. After 19 weeks on the downslide, B.O. grosses took an upward swing last weekend thanks to Fantastic Four. The latest comic-book adaptation–about a quartet of astronauts whose DNA is changed by a cosmic space storm–grossed an out-of-this-world $56 million.
6. Owen Wilson, for admitting his shortcomings as a lover following rumors about his bizarre bedroom behavior. In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine, Wilson refused to confirm rumors he recently snared a fan and “proceeded to lick her buttocks for over two hours,” but did describe his love making techniques as slightly inadequate. “OK, so I may not be the greatest lover in the world. Well, let’s make that angle work,” Wilson tells RS. “There’s lots of different paths to the waterfall. You don’t have to be Don Juan.”
7. American TV viewers, for the barrage of complaints they sent to World Wrestling Entertainment bosses after UPN aired a WWE Smackdown tournament in which top wrestlers attacked Arab-American fighters–just hours after the London bombings last week. The most disturbing moment featured wrestler Muhammad Hassan praying in the ring while five masked terrorists attacked longtime wrestling hero The Undertaker. A spokesperson for the WWE said in a statement, “We all feel bad about the timing of the segment.”
8. Sharon Stone, who beat Oscar winner Marisa Tomei and Four Weddings and A Funeral star Andie MacDowell to land the crown in In Touch magazine’s list of ageless Hollywood stars. The magazine’s editors gave Stone, 47, top marks for continuing to wow without the need for cosmetic surgery.
9. Nestle chocolates, for innovative product placement. Guests attending the post-premiere Charlie & the Chocolate Factory party in Hollywood on Sunday were handed buckets at the door so they could collect Nestle chocolates, which the confectionary maker dangled from trees and hanging globes.

10. Eminem, for his desire to play against type. The rapper was so impressed with the documentary Murderball that he wants to return to the big screen to play a paraplegic athlete if the film gets made into a Hollywood movie. Mark Zupan, who stars in the doc about the lives of quadriplegic rugby players who smash the hell out of each other in gladiator-like wheelchairs, said: “I have a friend that works for the William Morris Agency and he got a phone call that Eminem was interested in playing either me or a guy in the film if this ever gets made into a Hollywood movie.”
