Ah, California-or, should we say, “Calleefawnya?” Only there could a politician boost his approval ratings by reprising his roles in blockbuster films-and only there could a governor not enunciate the state he runs properly.
The Terminator will make good, once again, on his promise to “be back,” with Terminator 4 officially in its early stages, and deadbeat dad/secret agent Harry Tasker will return in a second installment of True Lies, both according to Web site Moviehole.net.
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger of course, embodies both characters with trademark action-before-acting, while blockbuster master James Cameron will direct both films.
In all seriousness, it does remain to be seen if this shocking announcement is a calculated ploy by the Gubernator to win back voters after it has been well documented in recent weeks that his numbers are fledgling and his re-election appears less likely with each passing week.
Either way, the actors are brimming with excitement.
“We all caught up. Me, Jamie Lee [Curtis], Arnoldand Jim [James Cameron], to talk about True Lies 2, about a month ago in California,” said Eliza Dushku, who was only 13-year-old when she played Schwarzenegger’s daughter in the film in 1994. “We’re doing it. Definitely doing it. I’m revved.”
Lies, released in 1994, grossed over $146 million domestically-and $365 million worldwide–modest numbers for Cameron, whose Terminator 2: Judgment Day earned $205 million domestically and over $500 million worldwide upon its release in 1991. (Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines was directed by Jonathan Mostow in 2003; Cameron wrote the screenplay.)
It should be interesting to see how Ah-nold pulls these roles off and gears up for them, given that he’s, well, pushing 60. But as long as Cameron‘s on board, we need not worry; if Arnie’s not already bionic, Cameron will deftly make him look so.
Only in California would the state take a backseat to the state of movies.
