Vampires weren’t always as handsome as Twilight’s Edward Cullen, you know. You should meet the screen’s very first bloodsucker, 1922’s Count Orlok (or Nosferatu), who, like a hideous rodent, had long, skeletal fingers — better to grab onto those human necks, of course. Be. Very. Scared. Aside from your own heavy breathing, not a single word is uttered — the film is silent, but it delivered on ghoulishness and ghastliness. It was a retelling of Dracula by Bram Stoker, but director F.W. Murnau never mentioned it and definitely didn’t send Bram a thank-you letter; therefore, Stoker’s widow sued, and copies of the film were to be destroyed in 1923. Now the first vampire thriller is restored in HD perfection to deliver the kind of willies you’ve never had.
