America’s sweetheart, Heigl, re-teams with Ugly Truth director Luketic for this action comedy about two strangers who meet while on vacation and get hitched soon thereafter. The storybook romance takes a turn to the dark side, however, when the couple returns home to discover that their neighbors might be assassins hired to kill them.
What We Think: The premise is hopelessly derivative (think Mr. and Mrs. Smith meets Date Night) and Kutcher’s film career has never impressed us. That leaves Heigl and Luketic, who (separately) have entertained us in the past, but the stench of their previous effort is enough to scare us away from this one.
Cool to Know: The film’s killer budget (somewhere in the realm of $75 million) and negative feedback from early test screenings are part of what prompted financier Carl Icahn’s aggressive attempt to take over Lionsgate, the studio bankrolling the troubled comedy.
