3 Fashion Tips Us Regular Girls Can Take From The Incomparable Cate Blanchett

Cate Blanchett is everything, and we don’t mean that in the typical, superfan sense of the word when you say that someone is “everything” and you just mean that they’re “awesome.” Cate Blanchett is everything. An amazing actress, a soon-to-be amazing director, a mother, a wife, a fashion icon: she is everything. This year she appears to be sweeping through Awards season, having won a Golden Globe, a Critic’s Choice award, and a SAG award for her performance in Woody Allen’s Blue Jasmine. And the best part about all of these awards is that we get to see Blanchett grace the red carpet, over and over again. Here are just a few things us regular girls can take from the Australian beauty’s timeless style.

Take Risks … Big Risks

It’s difficult to predict what Blanchett will wear on any particular occassion because she’s always taking risks and trying out new styles. It’s so easy to get comfortable with a particular look, but Blanchett seems willing to try it all. She’ll go from the Balenciag.Edition gown/madness in the rightmost image above to this flirty, funky Prabal Gurung dress, and she’ll wear it all with so much confidence, the whole look will seem effortless. That’s how you do it.

Don’t Be Scurred To Wear Yellow

Seriously! Nobody ever wears yellow, right? But with the right hairstyle, and a few sweet accessories (note the purple satin belt working wonders on her Oscar dress) yellow can totally be your friend.

Blend Those Lip Colors!

Blanchett’s make-up artist for the 2014 Golden Globes recently spoke about the look she gave her that night. Instead of going for the traditional red lip (which, admittedly, would have looked awesome against that black Armani gown), she blended  Giorgio Armani Rouge Ecstasy Lipstick in Scarlatto and Boudoir. The first layer was a raspberry rose color, the second nude rose, and voila! Blending complimentary lip colors (and no, they don’t have to be Armani) can create an exciting fashion moment for anyone.
