Demi Lovato’s ‘Heart Attack’ Video Used Paint Because Symbolism

Credit: Youtube/Demi Lovato

Demi Lovato knows that her “Heart Attack” music video was a wee bit confusing, so she’s back with a behind-the-scenes video to explain all the angsty black oil to us. Spoiler alert: It’s symbolism.

Ms. Lovato explains, “You see me in all white, representing something pure. But the black on my hands represents the things that I can’t let go of. It’s the leftover pain and suffering from past relationships.”

Oh, and there’s more. “There’s also a scene where I come up out of the black paint. That’s also representing me coming out of it and stepping into a new beginning,” Lovato says.

And to those who poo-pooed Lovato’s lack of dancing — this video marked the first time Demi donned a pair of heels after breaking her foot. But that’s all good, yo, because she got to emote more through her face
