Will Smith has a choice to make. Variety reports that the thesp is currently deciding between starring in Sony’s Men in Black III or Fox’s fantasy-adventure The City That Sailed. Smith, whose been busy producing, hasn’t appeared in a feature since 2008’s Seven Pounds.
Smith’s Overbrook developed City That Sailed and brought it to Fox, which embraced the family property. Written by Andrew Niccol, it revolves around a New York street magician who separated from his daughter. The girl, who moves to London, finds magic candles that make her wishes comes true, with unintended consequences: The island of Manhattan separates from the continent and floats toward England, bringing her dad ever closer.
The Men in Black franchise, meanwhile, has been a box office goldmine for Smith and Sony.
Insiders, says Variety, contend that one of the two will be Smith’s next film.
