2000 Back to School Night

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 15, 2000 — Remember when going back to school brought back feelings of anxiety about wardrobe, classes, teachers and that new zit on your forehead? Well, Friday night it was nothing but a party as Jennifer Love Hewitt, Tobey Maguire, Ryan Phillippe and Orlando Jones hosted The Fulfillment Funds’ Second Annual College Pathways Event to bring us “Back to School.”

The event, dedicated to rediscovering the child within, took place at the Orange Studios in Hollywood. Three soundstages were decorated as a playground, teacher’s lounge and a school cafeteria. No one was sent to the principal’s office, but plenty recalled high school memories.

“I remember this girl who sat in front of me that had such a fine behind,” smiled 7-Up guy Orlando Jones.

“It was always about the clothes you wore the first day back,” said Garcelle Beauvais.

A unique three-year, classroom-based program, the Fulfillment Fund’s College Pathways Project is designed to provide college preparatory training to students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

“This is a great charity because a lot of kids don’t get the right opportunities,” said Sugar Ray lead singer Mark McGrath.

Also lending their support were Tori Spelling, Kelly Hu, David Chokachi, Stephen Dorff, Ben Affleck, Angelica Bridges, Luke Wilson, Jessica Capshaw and Rachel Hunter.

The event was presented by The Gap and sponsored by Motorola iDen.
