UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif., August 15, 2000 — Some of the most talented Hispanic entertainers assembled Tuesday night to show support for democratic delegates, held at the Universal Ampitheatre after day two of the Democratic National Convention.
California Lt. Governor Cruz M. Bustamante brought together headlining Hispanic talent, including Little Joe and La Familia, La India, Los Lobos, comedian Paul Rodriguez and of course, Enrique Iglesias. Iglesias wowed the audience with a medley of his biggest hits, including “I Have Always Loved You” and “Be With You.”
Speakers included comedienne Liz Torres, joined by broadcast journalist Giselle Fernandez, who commented on the positive strides and struggles of U.S. Hispanic women.
Specials guests included the family of civil-rights activist Cesar E. Chavez, the United Farm Workers and Chavez’s right-hand woman, Dolores Huerta. The evening was a reflection of the struggles and accomplishments of the UFW and how Hispanics have contributed to the American Culture in the United States.
Also on hand to show their support were the casts of current popular Latino films and television shows such as “Luminarias” and “Resurrection Blvd.” It was a powerful evening of courage, hope and great entertainment, all in the emotional chant of, “Si, se puede!”
