2000 Premiere Magazine Icon Awards

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., Oct.11, 2000 — The “It” girls of Hollywood gathered at high noon for Premiere magazine’s 11th Annual Women in Hollywood luncheon. A good time and plenty of girl power were served up at the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills.

“They usually serve something similar to airplane chicken and an apple tart,” said attendee Kirsten Dunst, perhaps revealing that the crowd didn’t come just for the food.

Rita Wilson, Tom Hanks, Calista Flockhart, Claire Forlani, Anjelica Huston and a room full of bevies crossed the red ropes to honor Premiere Icon award recipients Drew Barrymore, Holly Hunter and producer Lauren Shuler Donner (“X-Men”).

This girls’ club doesn’t require that you be an angel in Hollywood — unless you’re Drew, that is. The magazine instead singles out women’s achievements both in front and behind the camera.

“It’s so wonderful that somebody like Drew is out there doing what she’s doing at the age of 25. She is making female-driven films and is important in the workplace. I commend her for her efforts,” said Huston.

Crowned Icon Holly Hunter (“Time Code”) seemed puzzled by the gesture and recognition of her peers.

“It’s a total shock! My movies generally do not make a lot of money. A lot of what is considered successful is about dough. I’m just very honored,” said Hunter.

Director Oliver Stone, Thora Birch (“American Beauty”) and Linda Blair also attended.

“The Whole Nine Yards'” Amanda Peet also got some recognition, receiving the Spotlight Award for Emerging Talent. Spotting a rising star is so easy when she arrives in head-to-toe Armani.

Last year’s honored shooting star, “Bring It On” actress Kirsten Dunst, is proud of her film’s achievements.

“It’s still in the top 10, and that’s an all-female cast, pretty much. So, it goes to show that an 18-year-old girl can do it too. I feel like we’re all paving the way,” said Dunst.

It also goes to show that a Premiere magazine award and a few cheers later, you’re bringing on one of the summer’s biggest box-office hits. Take note, Peet — you’re in the right club and surely on your way.
