The Skinny: Think Purple Rain for the hip-hop generation: the multi-platinum-selling artist makes his acting debut in a phat flick “loosely based” on his life as a white wanna-be rapper coming of age in urban Detroit.
The Bottom Line: Eminem gives the film street cred; Hanson and Basinger give it Oscar cred. If the story’s as intense and compelling as his music, chances for both a box office and awards season gold rush are neither Slim nor Shady.
