In the days leading up to the Oscars, much of the big night’s buzz will center around what the nominees will wear on the red carpet. While that burning question is still up in the air, thanks to Victoria’s Secret there’s at least a lead on what the Best Actress contenders might wear underneath their fabulous gowns. Upon hearing of this year’s Oscar nominations, the famed purveyor of lacy underthings recently continued its six-year tradition of hand-delivering “The Oscar Survival Kit”–an elegant pink clutch packed with essentials for filmdom’s biggest celebration–to Best Actress nominees Hilary Swank, Annette Bening, Kate Winslet, Catalina Sandino and Imelda Staunton. The Survival Kit is hand-crafted by Mouawad with over 250 single cut round brilliant diamonds and sapphires, totaling approximately 10 carats with a retail value of over $15,000. “The concept was to gift them with the ultimate red carpet necessities,” Victoria’s Secret spokeswoman Sara Tervo told Hollywood.com. “We really appreciate the movies and women in leading roles and we take a lot a pride in women’s accomplishments from our brand perspective. For us to support these women in these leading roles is a great tradition, and we like to spoil them with a congratulatory token of a fun Victoria’s Secret novelty gift.” The Oscar Survival Kit’s essentials include:
Basic Instinct, Victoria’s Secret’s newest fragrance in a 2.5oz chic, jewel-encrusted bottle, a sexy, provocative scent designed to give an actress all the confidence she needs on her big night. “Women always like to smell good,” said Tervo.
Make it Last Enduring Lip Color, supermodel-tested to last over eight hours (it combines a long-lasting color and a moisturizing top coat that keeps lips glossy and glamorous) and perfect to make it through awards night without reapplication, through al of the interviews, acceptence speeches and after-parties. “We obviously think this is a good cosmetic to have on the red carpet, with all the kissing and the sipping on champagne,” said Tervo.
A pair of Sexy Little Things, an embellished black lace panty adorned with 44 individually chosen diamonds and 96 pink sapphires totaling over 7.2cts and retailing for approximately $10,000.
The signature pink leather clutch also features a Diamond and Sapphire Lucky Clover Clutch by Mouawad crafted with 36 individually chosen diamonds and about three carats worth of 76 pink sapphires. “It can be worn on the panty or removed and worn as a broach with any gown,” said Tervo of the $5,000 charm. “We thought the lucky clover would be a fun item to give them. Not that any of them need any luck!” Although it would be a major p.r. coup if any of the nominees wore their Victoria’s Secret lucky charm or just those lucky panties to the Academy Awards, as an undergarment expert Tervo knows they might have to leave the lacy gift at home. “I don’t if a lot of women actually do wear a lot of undergarments on the red carpet, depending on what their dress cut could be,” she laughed. “Whatever you’re wearing underneath you want to be a secret – you want it to not take away from the dress.” Still, the Oscar-nominated actresses who have received a gift from Victoria’s Secret in the last few years–Nicole Kidman, Halle Berry, Renee Zellweger and Charlize Theron among them–have always been grateful for the gift of pre-awards panties. “They always appreciate them and send a little note back, or in an interview they’ll say thanks,” said Tervo. “I’ll always remember Judi Dench saying ‘I love it, I love it, I love it!'” Actually, Sara, we were hoping to know more about Nicole’s knickers than Dame Judi’s dainties, but thanks for the info!
