Express’ blue ball

Express
has built an empire on denim, so it’s little wonder that the grand opening of
its latest lavish outpost in the heart of Hollywood had a decidedly blue tint
to the decor: napkins, sofas, finger food, even the “denim-tinis” were in azure
hues.

Dozens of Hollywood’s hottest rising stars crowded the bar and dance floor set up inside the new store at the Hollywood & Highland shopping complex. When famous play-ahs like Matthew Perry and Vince Vaughn showed up (to check out the young talent and their uniformly tight jeans, no doubt), it really seemed like the party was at the Industry’s epicenter.

Express models Karolina Kurkova and Mini Anden shook their booties alongside a host of familiar faces, including Amy Smart, Hank Azaria, Dominique Swain, David Gallagher, Elisha Cuthbert, Jennifer Esposito, Marla Sokoloff (pictured), Nicole Eggert, Orlando Bloom, Rachel Hunter, Robbie Williams, Sam Ball, Hilary Duff, Ian Somerhalder, Sean Lennon, Stephen Dorff, Goldmember‘s “Fook” twins Diane Mizota and Carrie Ann Inaba and UK party girl Tamara Beckwith.

Even when the blue straws in the blue mini champagne bottles (the latest must-have at Hollywood parties) ran dry, attendees were thrilled by the gift bags handed to them on their way out: a brand-new pair of jeans. Talk about an Express exit!

A (Blue) Crush on Billabong

Bikinis
and board shorts are probably more about function than fashion for girls looking
to catch a vicious curl on their longboards. But for those of you who want to
adopt the surfer chick styles sported by Kate
Bosworth
(pictured, left), Michelle
Rodriguez
and Sanoe
Lake
in Blue Crush,
this fashion scoop is just as important as the latest surf report.

Billabong spokeswoman Jessica Trent Nichols (who also plays a cameo role as the water-wear company’s rep) says the actresses wore a lot of their swimwear, like the rashguard that kate Bosworth wears in the climactic competition scene, as well as their casual clothes including denim, crocheted halters and T-shirts.

“The costume designer, Susan Matheson, had such a knack for getting the vibe of true surfer girls,” Nichols said. “For these characters, who are supposed to live by the seat of their pants, she took our product and manipulated it so on camera it would look like something the girls wore every day.”

Nichols explained how Matheson gave the new clothing an old, raw look. “She put our board shorts through dye baths to make the colors look faded, attacked T-shirts with, and cut off jeans into little shorts to accentuate the casually sexy look on Kate Bosworth. With the swimwear she mismatched different tops to other bottoms–a look that is more like every day and like a girl just rolled out of bed and threw on whatever was on the floor.”

“Our fall line still carries the Billabong/Blue Crush feel,” noted Nichols, saying the film’s look is reflected in the line with its similar hues (browns, greens, desaturated reds, denim), details like suede lacing and by updating summer silhouettes with fall fabrics.

So even though summer’s nearly over, you can still catch Blue Crush’s stylish wave.

Diamonds on her shoes

You
don’t have to be a rock star to go wild over jeweler Sasha Ratiu’s bedazzling
embellishments to her good friend Jimmy Choo’s exotic footwear–but it helps.
Janet Jackson, for
instance, had Sasha upgrade an exclusive pair of Choo’s white satin boots with
her initials “JJ,” and added a diamond ankle chain across the arch of the boot,
to boot.

Ratiu, a Russian-born jeweler, is already well known in the U.K and lately has seen her sparking touch take hold among diverse Hollywood divas as well: Sharon Stone picked out a pair of black satin Jimmy Choos with diamond fireworks on the heel, while ever-fashion conscious Joan Rivers had her initials set in pave diamonds on the heels of her shoes.

With the help of her good buddy, the aforementioned socialite Tamara Beckwith,
Sasha’s developed what she’s dubbed the “Rock Star” collection, with bejeweled
shoes so stylish they don’t have to be confined to your feet, like the mini Jimmy
Choo with a pave diamond buckle charm. [PAGEBREAK]

Underneath it all

Sure, the latest paparazzi photos show you what fashions Hollywood’s famous
femmes are wearing, but what do the stars have on underneath? Odds are
they’re getting support from Agent Provocateur, the super-sexy lingerie line that
ranks high as undergarments of choice among showbiz’s most heavenly bodies.

Pushing
high-end risqué to the very edge of tastefully raunchy, the label promotes an
out-there sensuality that has starlets clamoring to own every intimate item, as
well as its exotic, erotic accessories such as lotion, candles, crystal-studded
whips and even strip poker sets. Two British outposts and the L.A. boutique will
be joined in the fall by a Manhattan store.

Although the company remains judiciously mum on the subject, Gwyneth Paltrow, Madonna, Nicole Kidman, Julia Roberts, Charlize Theron, Christina Aguilera, Kate Moss, Gwen Stefani, Rose McGowan, Cate Blanchett, Naomi Campbell, Lisa Marie and Cher are among those who’ve been whispered to get a boost from the Melrose Avenue mecca’s bras and bustiers.

The most famous form associated with the undies is pushed-up pop tart Kylie Minogue, a friend of husband-and-wife founders Joe Corré and Serena Rees who appeared in her unmentionables in a 30-second U.K. advertisement so steamy it could only be shown in movie theaters and on the Internet. This is one Agent that’s licensed to thrill.

The Kid chases girls at Barney’s

“I
still enjoy the company of women,” the famed producer Robert
Evans
–subject (actually star is the better word) of the hot new documentary
film The Kid Stays in the Picture–told me recently, and it seems like
the ladies have yet to tire of Evans as well.

A plethora of female beauties showed up at a recent bash honoring Evans thrown by Malo Cashmere at Barneys New York in Beverly Hills (which paid tribute to the man by displaying more than 200 photos, awards and memorabilia in its store window), including Jennifer Tilly (pictured, with Evans), Brooke Shields, Heidi Klum, Cheryl Tiegs, Katherine Helmond, Justine Bateman (with baby on board), Rosanna Arquette, Tracee Ellis Ross, jewelry designer Lorree Rodkin and Deborah Raffin. There were a few gents in attendance as well, including Martin Landau, Sumner Redstone and Bernie Brillstein.

Some of the women have known Evans for years, while others were hoping for a first encounter. “I’ve actually never met him,” said Tilly, who arrived ever fashion-conscious in vintage Pucci. “I wanted to come tonight because I went to see the movie at his house, and I got there a little bit late and he was gone when the movie was over, so it was almost like he was this legendary person that may not even exist. I thought I had to meet him some day.”

At the party, Evans was reveling in the newfound attention–especially that of the female variety. “It’s kept me alive, I tell you,” he said. “It’s the best medicine in the world.”

Dressed for sex–er, success in the city

For
those of you not getting enough Sex, maybe you should try a little role-playing.
We’re talking, of course, about Sex and the City, where with the right
Gold Card, you can sample the NYC style of Sarah
Jessica Parker
and co. (courtesy some inside tips from HBO).

Let’s begin with a look at Carrie’s closet, beginning with the fourth season premiere in which she matches the chic simplicity of Club Monaco’s pink “Ricki” tie sweater with an extravagant 1920s sequined flapper dress and vintage purple velvet swing coat, Manolo Blahnik’s pink satin mules, vintage heart-shaped locket and a tweed clutch by Chanel.

That look gave way to fashionable formality when Carrie was called to serve as baby Brady’s godmother in Narciso Rodriguez’s sleeveless crepe dress and matching jacket, accessorized with a camellia silk chiffon headpiece from Chanel, a Christian Dior diamante floral burst pin and pumps by Blahnik.

Other episodes, another outfits: from a lace-trimmed chiffon Yokozzy dress and pink antique slip with “picture frame” necklace and pink pinky ring from La Reina, to Balenciaga designer Nicolas Ghesquiere’s limited edition patchwork blouse, to an original Sex Pistols “Anarchy in the UK” tee from Vivienne Westwood’s infamous Kings Road punk boutique, to an “Atlantic City” souvenir sweatshirt.

As Samantha, Kim Cattrall‘s wardrobe pushes the envelope when it comes to sexified chic: a strapless sequined Gilar Asym aqua mini-dress with Roberto Cavalli stiletto boots (with matching clutch by Fendi and turquoise pebble necklace); a red-hot pantsuit by Charles Chang-Lima and a pink suede coat by Versus with Casedei stilettos; Celine’s ultra-sexy black dress and strappy Michael Kors slingback sandals with Ferragamo bag, gold Kenneth Jay Lane alligator bracelet and H. Stern earrings.

Of course, throughout the early season, Samantha’s pièce de résistance has been her

exquisite 25-carat fancy yellow cushion cut canary diamond ring (pictured)–given to her by beau Richard Wright, courtesy Harry Winston, valued at just under $1 million–and the ring gets around with the ladies as much as Richard: it’s the very same one worn by Whoopi Goldberg at this year’s Oscars. But we’re still trying to figure out where she got her pearl-and-lace thong underwear…we know La Petite Coquette, the Greenwich Village lingerie shop, carries them for $69.

Charlotte
(Kristin Davis) has
seen her look evolve into impeccable Upper East Side: her recent selections have
included a double-breasted trench by London-based Paul & Joe, beige Barneys New
York trousers, a bubblegum pink mock-croc handbag by Lambertson Truex and a pink-and-tan
tweed plaid hat by London milliner Misa Harada.

Newly single Charlotte also spiced things up when she hit the town in Atlantic City, with a halter dress from L’Impasse with plunging cowl neckline and revealing back. Then there’s Charlotte Casual: jeans with a black crewneck boasting Ralph Lauren’s iconic polo player matched with a pink Gucci watch.

Post-baby, Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) has been sticking to comfortable urban couture. She’s been seen sporting faded Billy Blues denim jeans, a James Perse crewneck tee, a luxurious Lutz and Patmos cashmere cardigan, Revillon’s chocolate suede coat and vintage patchwork leather boots by Todd Oldham; Missoni’s colorful striated knit top and DKNY’s dark denim jeans; and a long burgundy Ellen Tracy cardigan and coordinating chiffon floral scarf by Echo.

All of the ladies’ couture choices spring from the magenta-haired head of the show’s costume designer, Patricia Field, who will soon be dressing the daytime divas of The Guiding Light.
