“Dear Dexter, I love you.” That was my exact thought as episode four of Dexter came to a close Sunday night. (The “you” I am referring to is the show, not the character–I don’t fall in love with serial killers, I promise.) The premise of the show is that Dexter works for the police department but is also a serial killer. This past episode did not feature one Dexter killing, and yet it was still pure perfection.
Considering I spent the majority of the episode wondering “What the f@&*?” (in the best way possible), I want to go over some of my thoughts with all of you. Please please please, SoundOff with your thoughts, so that I can feature them in my next column and we can attempt to get to the bottom of this show!
Does Dexter get scared at all? I mean this in two ways. Does Dexter get scared that someone knows about his serial killing ways and more people could catch on to him? And, does Dexter get scared that some other serial killer knows him so well, breaks into his house, knows his childhood, etc? I would be shaking in my boots.
The Ice Truck Killer is a man. He has to be, right? When we saw the shadow of the person who took the Polaroid of Dexter, it was a shadow of a man. Unless he was dressing in drag. OR, the picture taker could have just been a pawn that the Ice Truck Killer sent. This is driving me nuts.
I brought this up to my sister and her response was, “I guess it has to be a man just by pure physics. Unless there is some really scary chick with a machete that makes bigger guys do what she says.”
Secretly I’ll admit that after episodes 1-3 I thought maybe Lt. Maria La Guerta was the Ice Truck Killer. If this man-hypothesis is right, then I was way off. Unless part two of my sister’s statement was correct. Then it could be the Lieutenant. She’s big and scary, to Debra at least.
My sister guessed the Ice Truck Killer could be the Captain? He seemed to be close with Dexter’s father? Oh dear, who knows!?!
Showtime’s Dexter Web site has a spot where you can read the files on Dexter’s victims. If you have some free time on your hands, check it out. It’s way too fun not to.
Dexter was glad that the Ice Truck Killer thought he would “finish the job” when Tony Tucci was on the table, partly amputated, with tools to perform the kill. Dexter said, “My new friend didn’t think I’d be able to resist the kill he left for me. But I did.” We all know Dexter doesn’t kill the good guys, but the Ice Truck Killer seemed to miss this. Yet, now that Tucci is alive, the Ice Truck Killer must have caught on, right? So how happy can Dexter be about that?
Did anyone else squirm during the Tony Tucci on the table scenes?
Um, Dexter and Rita had a little “fun,” and Dexter actually liked it. Whoa.
Next week (I think from the previews), Dexter goes after whoever killed Rita’s ex. He really likes this lady friend of his.
I loved this line that ended the show: “I’m not the monster he wants me to be. So I’m neither man nor beast. I’m something new entirely. I’m Dexter.”
