MTV’s College Life Premiere

MTV, God of reality TV, is reaching for even more … realness. Its newest reincarnation of docudrama premieres tonight (10:30 PM ET/PT), and it aims to really depict what life in college is like for our nation’s intrepid university-goers. Four freshmen entering the University of Wisconsin are wielding little digital cameras (property of MTV), and they’re tasked with being their own director. Funnily enough, they’ve seemed to typecast themselves! Meet the frosh: Kevin — the first thing this Minnesota lad learned when he went to college was getting a keg of beer up the stairs and into his dorm room; Alex — she’s got the smarts (hello, scholarship) and the emotional baggage; Jordan — touts a biracial background and quiet-guy qualities (curiously, he enjoys reading); Andrea — a “born and raised cheese head,” which means she’s from Wisconsin, who can’t help but talk about what a big ol’ virgin she is, but flaunts a very odd relationship with a boy from high school, who cooks dinner for her once and week and often says the words: “I own you.” MTV has never erred on casting, but only time will tell if their lack of effort in the editing room will offer too much rawness or just enough.
