Outcast, Star Wars: Fate of the Jedi, Book 1, Aaron Allston
(Friday, Mar. 27, 2009)
You’ll fly through these 336 pages, trust. It’s the introductory saga of an entirely new Star Wars angle: Post-civil war, the Galactic Alliance is in very bad shape (like our economic crisis but worse). The government, however, is choosing to blame the beloved Luke Skywalker and has ordered for his arrest on the charge: L.S., you didn’t prevent Jacen Solo from sauntering over to the dark side, aka priming his terror-rific reign as a Sith Lord. Needless to say, the public feels suspicious of the Jedi (perhaps how Gotham will feel about Batman post-Dark Knight. To make things worse for the Jedi, one of its best suffers a psychotic breakdown, thus leads the life of a dangerous fugitive! Luke has seen this happen before — and damn it if he’s not going to stop it. With his son Ben along for the investigation, Luke sniffs out the real reasons behind Jacen Solo’s downfall, and fingers crossed, if he comes back with any answers, Luke’s freedom will be up for grabs. Allston, the author, writes with seamless Star Wars integrity, leaving you breathless with shock and support for the unwarranted outcast.
