Smith on DirecTV
(Wednesday, Apr. 29, 2009)
As DirecTV is wont to do, it has yet again saved another worth-saving TV show — à la Friday Night Lights and Wonderland. Originally a CBS show that premiered in 2005, Smith was prematurely canceled after just three episodes. Tonight marks the first night of all previously unaired eps, following Bobby Stevens (Ray Liotta), who we’ve learned is mostly expert thief, not so much regular family man with a nine-to-fiver. (Post-Observe and Report, Mr. Liotta is suddenly all up in our lives again … we like it.) Hope (Virginia Madsen) is suspicious of her hubby but hasn’t a clue that the father of her two children pulls out the most sophisticated armed robberies ever. He wants out — no, really, he does — but Bobby’s tied in deep with the reckless likes of Simon Baker, Jonny Lee Miller and Amy Smart. The FBI wants to capture “Smith” so bad, but thus far, the police-code moniker is not attached to anybody. We’re dying to catch these pivotal episodes, if only to assure ourselves that Liotta doesn’t end up behind bars. He certainly doesn’t resemble a “Smith” and neither does the actual leader of this clandestine clan of mis-doers …
