DO IT TODAY: ‘Top Chef Masters’

Top Chef Masters
(Wednesday, June 10, 2009)

Top Chef spinoff? Perhaps this’ll make up for Hosea winning the last go-round. To sate our summer appetite, Bravo’s enlisted not egolomaniacal sous chefs in their twenties but 24 old-timers that’ve made a killin’ at cookin’. Masters if you will. You’ll recognize Wylie Dufresne of NYC’s WD-50 from last season’s pre-finale episode — he wanted eggs benedict as his “last supper,” and Leah effed it up. Pictured above is Hubert Keller of San Francisco’s Fleur de Lys — we like that he can smile and cook. Here in L.A., we’ll be rooting for the chefs of Ludo Bits, Jar, Campanile and Providence. Some chick named Kelly Choi is hosting (apparently, she’s got a food background of some sort in Manhattan), but don’t fret: Padma LakshmiTom Colicchio and Gail Simmons will show up as guest judges, as well as Neil Patrick Harris and Zooey Deschanel. And one note about the Quickfire Challenges: It’ll be a blind taste test with a five-star grading system — just like those fine dining reviews these 24 chefs should be very, very used to.
