The Skinny: It’s a rags-to-riches story about a talented young singer (Carey) making her way up the ladder in the millieu of the ’80s club world. Of course, her journey is fraught with disappointments and lost love. But
that’s the price you pay for fame.

The Bottom Line: Really, what can we say? It’s Mariah Carey, for Pete’s sake. It may have done lousy at the box office, but her legion of fans will still enjoy it.
