Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone
The Players: Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, Richard Harris, Maggie Smith, Alan Rickman, John Cleese; directed by Chris Columbus
The Skinny: Based on the first of the endearing J.K. Rowling novels, this highly anticipated big-screen adaptation follows 11-year-old Harry (newcomer Radcliffe) from the everyday world into the wonderful world of magic. At the Hogwarts School of Wizardry and Witchcraft, Harry discovers his true destiny as a wizard and finds great adventure with his new friends, Ron (Rupert Grint) and Hermione (Emma Watson) as they try to find out who wants to steal the mysterious Sorcerer’s Stone.
The Bottom Line: Anyone who is a fan of these books is absolutely salivating over this film. The casting is spot-on with mostly British actors, including Harris as the wise headmaster and Rickman as a menacing professor. This will most likely cast a huge spell over the box office.
Opens: Nov. 16
