Life As a House
The Players: Kevin Kline, Kristin Scott Thomas, Hayden Christensen, Mary Steenburgen, Jena Malone; directed by Irwin Winkler
The Skinny: Kline plays an architect who, after he learns he is dying, decides to renovate his meager home into something grand and glorious. As well, he seeks to reconcile with this alienated teenage son (Christensen). Soon his family, including his ex-wife (Thomas) sees his odd behavior as spiritually redeeming.
The Bottom Line: Kline, like Gene Hackman, is wonderful in just about everything he does, and this performance sounds right up his alley. It also introduces the young Christensen to movie audiences before he makes his huge splash as Anakin Skywalker in the next Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones.
Opens: Oct. 26
