Fall Movie Guide-Training Day

The Players: Denzel Washington, Ethan Hawke, Tom Berenger, Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Scott Glenn; directed by Antoine Fuqua.

The Skinny: Hawke plays wide-eyed, idealistic rookie Jake Hoyt, whose first day on the job working undercover for the LAPD’s narcotics unit brings more than he bargains for. In 24 hours, he’s pulled into an ethical quagmire involving his corrupt partner Alonzo Harris (Washington), a 13-year vet narcotics officer who brings his own brand of justice to bear on the job.

The Bottom Line:: Washington usually plays those morally upright, stiff-upper-lip type guys, and while he’s always a solid performer in that capacity, it’ll be nice to see him get a little dirt on that squeaky-clean image for a change.
