Celeb: Viggo Mortensen

Promoting: Eastern Promises

When Spotted: Saturday, Sept. 8, 2007

The Low Down: Viggo Mortensen seen hanging at King Street West’s scenester lounge, Cheval–celebrating the debut of his new cerebral Russian mob flick Eastern Promises, co-starring Naomi Watts.

What Else?: The square-jawed Viggo–who put out an album in 1994 entitled, Don’t Tell Me What to Do–has portrayed, to date: an Amish farmer; Lucifer; a thrill-crazed cowboy; an Indianan, Irish ex-mobster; a warrior king from Middle Earth; and now a conflicted Russian mobster. We say: Drink up–you’re still keepin’ it real!

Celeb: Cate Blanchett

Promoting: I’m Not There

When Spotted: Sunday, Sept. 7, 2007

The Low Down: The absolutely gorgeous and utterly statuesque Cate Blanchett spotted chatting it up with director pal Julie Taymor in Toronto’s posh Four Seasons.

What Else?: There’s nothing more Indiewood actress-chic than playing a man in a movie, namely Bob Dylan…and then, around press time, doing a glamorous, strut-in-heels across a hotel lobby. It’s oh-so very 2007!

Celeb: Jason Bateman

Promoting: The Kingdom

When Spotted: Sunday, Sept. 7, 2007

The Low Down: Jason Bateman lounging and rapping with a few animated industry folks on the third floor of the Four Seasons Hotel.

What Else?: Playing a key member of an elite FBI team–alongside with co-stars Jamie Foxx and Jennifer Garner–that embarks on secret five-day trip into Saudi Arabia, the talented Bateman must now wonder which fictitious role is more surreal: infiltrating a terrorist cell, bent on jihad…or trying to have a productive, honest conversation with cloying industry bigwigs.

When Spotted: Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2007

The Low Down: A pensive Michael Douglas browsing at popular Canadian clothing store, Roots, located at 100 Bloor Street West.

When Spotted: Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2007

The Low Down: Hip, grizzled, loner Burt Reynolds seen with newly dark hair, strolling out of the star-crammed Four Seasons.

What Else?: Reynolds was likely avoiding one of those ghastly celeb-packed schmooze fêtes, which he openly speaks against attending. According to Burt in a recent interview: “I’d rather be shot in the legs than go to a cocktail party!”
